The Prodigal Son

Forgiveness

"No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, "Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the Lord. "for I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."   Jeremiah 31:34

Overview

This very famous parable would have grabbed the imagination and attention of the listeners in the day as there are many outrageous moments. The first being that a son would ask for his inheritance early, and that the father even said yes! On the theme of forgiveness though it is when the son returns after all he has done wrong that would have provoked the biggest reaction. A father of a house would never run, and never lift his tunic to revel his feet in such an act, it would be humiliating culturally. But this is how much God desires to forgive us!
