The Pharisee & The Tax Collector

Boasting

'For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.' Ephesians 2:8-9

Overview

This simple parable explains in very plain terms that not only the fact we live for God is important, but also how we live for Him is important. In this specific parable Jesus uses a well known situation in the temple that all would have understood and seen before as the Pharisees tried to laud their holiness before others. However, the heart of someone that does not find their value in trying to be seen as great by other people is precious to the Lord and speaks of a humble attitude.
