BOOK OVERVIEW
Amos was a shepherd and fig tree farmer who lived near the border of Northern Israel and Southern Judah. The north was being ruled by Jeroboam II who was a successful military leader and generated a lot of wealth for Israel. In the eyes of the prophets he was seen as one of the worst Kings encouraging idol worship and oppression of the poor. Amos announces God’s word to the people of the Northen Kingdom confronting their sin and warned them of impending judgment. The book concludes with a message of hope that one day God will restore his people and make them great again.

1. Success is when we achieve a goal.
2. God's goal for us is to Love Him, Love people and care for the poor and needy.

AGE APPROPRIATE ADAPTATIONS

For the age of the children in Mini's the story will need to be summarised appropriately. We suggest you explain the message behind the verses rather than reading out the scriptures within the teaching notes. Don’t give details of the oppression but instead explain that God’s people were being ‘unkind’ or similar.

For the age of the children in Kids Church you will need to partially adapt the story to make it appropriate to the listeners. You may want to use some of the verses in Amos to explain the oppression of people in Israel but pick appropriate passages for the age of the group.
